Early Beginnings
November 1954, a plot of land on Jackson Street was purchased by a group of people from First Presbyterian Church, Alexandria.

February 1955, a group of 38 people met in a small hut which had been given by First Church.

May 1, 1955, a ground breaking ceremony celebrated the beginning of construction.



August 1955, the building was occupied.


The Growth of Grace

September 1955, church sponsored the Jackson Street Kindergarten for twenty years.

November 1955,  John C. Neville, Jr. was called as first pastor.

1961, the Richard A. Curnow was installed as second pastor.

1965, Forrest Hawkins became the third pastor.

1969,  Mickey Snyder became the fourth pastor.

1975, BobVincent becomes the fifth pastor.




1984, Grace Christian School is formed.



1985, Grace expands its building.

1994, name changed from Jackson Street Presbyterian Church to Grace Presbyterian Church.

1998, Grace Presbyterian Church joins the Evangelical Presbyterian Church denomination.

2005, Ritchey Cable joins the staff, Grace celebrates it's 50th anniversary, while Bob Vincent celebrates 30 years as pastor.



2006, Grace expands to two Sunday morning worship services.

2007, Don M. Shipley, Jr., Ph.D. becomes Assistant Pastor for Worship.
